Sendero field knife

This is the best all around field knife that I have used. It is meant to be an all purpose blade and it works as well upside down as it does in normal usage. This works best in a 3 1/2-4 1/2 inch blade. About any handle material works for this knife. My favorite is stag or sheep horn on this knife. Shown is oil finished fiddle back maple, I also use stabilized woods, ivory and bone. This knife will slice a radish so thin it will not give you gas.
Sendero Upgraded field knife
You can also dress up your field grade Sendero. This one has a 1084 carbon steel blade. The handle material is fossil Stellar Sea Cow bone. The stainless mountings on this particular knife are engraved by myself. The escutcheon is engraved with scroll work and has a small checkered background. The guard and pins are done with beading. I use a tool to hammer each bead and pivot the tool on each bead to raise it up. On each pin head is approx. 150 beads. This takes a long time to do beading but I like the result. I was luck enough to win Best Hunter award at the Arkansas show this year of 2003 with this knife.
Sendero BT
[Bird and Trout]
I took my Sendero hunter and slimmed it down a lot then swept up the tip just a bit. This is a magnificent little knife. It will fit in where ever you go and has a real touch of class. I engraved the stainless guard. This particular knife has a sambar stag handle and a 1084 carbon steel blade. When you get ready for one just let me know. Put one of these in your backpack and you will always be prepared and feel good about it.
Spear Point Bowie
The Spear point Bowie is probably the oldest style of knife there is. Simply because you could chip one of them out of stone. It remains the strongest point of all the knives. Not only do they work excellent in the field but they are also pleasing to the eye. This particular one is forged from 1084 carbon steel. It has a Sambar stag handle and the mountings are of stainless steel. I engraved the ferrule with the traditional "running wheat" pattern and the guard is engraved with a single line of large beads.
Game Master Hunter
This knife is a heavier duty user than the Sendero. The handle determines this. The Game Master has a drop down in the back allowing the hand to pull against it which results in heavier work you can do. This particular knife that is shown as a forged blade of 1084 carbon steel and a curly oak handle that has been stabilized. The stainless guard is of 416 stainless. I engraved the guard with a wheat pattern. Pack this knife and on those long hunting trips, this knife looks good and works even better. Available in a variety of handle materials.
Woojack

This is a prototype of the new model Woojack. This was set up to be a
one knife does most all type of carry. The blade is 6 1/2 inches long.
Sharpend clip, thick spine and a oil finished maple handle. The maple
is a gun stock wood so it will hold up well under abuse, the blade is
stout so you can baton it through heavy cutting if need be. The belly
of the blade can be used to skin a critter in the field etc. This is
not a traditional bowie but it sure does hold up well in field use.
Jamencia The intergal line
The Jamecia is the only intergal I do at this point. Forged from
round bar they take longer to forge, and longer to grind but makes a
very stout knife. All out of one piece of steel this knives are also
the most deceptive as there is only 3 pieces to this simple knife.
Sometimes it is harder to keep it simple yet elegant. This style of
knife is still being used by the Gauchos in Brazil where I learned to
make this knife. It will do overall
camp chores very well and works as an excellent knife for field use.
This
knife works well in about any handle material. Shown is a 9 inch blade
and
a 4 1/2" inch. My favorite blade length is about 7 1/2 inches though it
works well up to a 10 inch blade. These are both forged out of
5160 medium level carbon steel but I now have some round bar W2 steel
that should work really well..
Mid size Sheffield bowie
This is an historic knife. It worked well back in the 1800's and it works well today. Hand forged in carbon steel. The handle materials that it works best in are bone, stag and wood though ivory and even Mother of Pearl where sometimes used. This field grade knife can be up graded with a leather sheath that has a silver throat and tip. The straight handle on this knife makes it very fast in the hand. Shown is a 7 1/2 inch blade which was the size of the originals I looked at.
Comenchero mid size
This knife is shown with a 7 1/2 inch blade. Forged from carbon steel it works best with wood or micarta handles. A strong knife it also carries a thong hold to attach a lanyard for those times when you may need it. This knife works well in anywhere from 6 1/2 inches to up to 10 1/2 inches in blade length.
Rojo
This is the second generation of the camp knife model, Rojo . This was the first of this newer design. It shows and performs better. The change is in the handle. I kept the forward finger lug for control and "pull" but dropped the back of the handle for more power and gave more "pull" on the bottom of the handle in back also. This knife will cut well and be comfortable. This design can also be used quite well for cutting competitions due to the handle design. From the makers view point a draw back is that it uses oversize handle materials so this will limit what can be used. Handle materials will have to stay with wood, or I should be able to find an ivory tusk big enough if a damascus blade was preferred. As shown with Ring Ridgee wood and 5160 carbon steel that has been etched and polished to show off the temper line. You can get your carbon steel blades either etched or not etched and a variety of damascus patterns can be made with this knife. This particular knife had a 10 5/8" blade, it weighed 17 ounces and the balance was approx, 3/4" in front of the guard. The last time I had something this sexy out in the woods I ended up at a shot gun wedding.

The Military model. The approx 6
1/2inch blade is forged out of 1084 carbon steel and double tempered. This
knife is a no-nonsense user. The spine is false edged so that it will penatrate well and also
strengthens up the blade itself the way it is done. It has a stainless steel
guard, handle bolts and thong hole. It only comes in black micarta. The tang
comes within 3/8 inch of back of handle. The knife is ground with a very slight
convex cross section. This knife is designed to cut well and to hold up under
conditions a soldier will find themselves in. If you depend upon your knife
for everyday task, this one will square you away.
Matching presentation field
grade set
You can also get a combo set if you wish. This particular set came
with matching stabablized curly oak handles. You can order it plain field
grade or with matching engraving as is shown here. You can also get a shorter
tang on the ax if you wish. This one was set up for heavy duty use. I have
now got me one started I liked it so well.

Each year I make myself one or two personal
knives. I always have a small one and large one. I thought I would just
post up my large one for this year so you can get an idea of what I
use. This knife is an intergal blade forged from 5160 round bar, double
tempered in a Southwest Bowie style and a crown stag handle. The blade
measures this year about 9 1/2 inches long and a tad over 1 3/4 inches
wide. I use my personal knives to help set up cutting contest, I use
them in the field or just let people cut with them when they visit my
shop. The type or style of knife varies each year. I chose this style
this year because I had never made in intergal southwest style. Big ole
honker ain't it? As you can see I had already began to use it when I
thought up putting a picture up. This is also what some makers refer to
as a "beater".
Tomahawk
This is a no nonsense tool. Finish is cold gun blued so it will hold up under hard useage. The head is made up of S7 steel which is a shock resistant steel. Handles are hickory ball peen hammer handles so you can replace them quickly and easy. This Hawk throws well as well as it holds a good edge. . You can just have one of these made for you when you take delivery on your order.
