The ABS board knife.
Mr. Moran had always forged the ABS board knife, this is the knife that
all of the makers that sits on the board particpates in the making of.
Since he passed away this year, I have been asked to forge the board
knife for 2007. It is a SouthWest bowie knife. It will be some well
known makers that is participating in the making of this knife and I
would like to encourage you to considering purchasing this knife. It is
a one of a kind bowie and will go in any collection as being quite
rare. If you have any questions on this knife let me know and I
can explain more about it.
We
are doing something new. Like always we have the clients best interest
at heart. One of the things we are offering is a Registration Document
when you purchase your knife. This Certificate will have the
photo of that particular knife as well as its description and each
individual knife is assigned a registration number. It has a place in
case the knife is re-sold, the new owner can re-register the knife but
it will be forever assigned that one number. This way all the knives
can be traced. as well as cutting down on counterfeits. Most
importantly it is registered like any other piece of traditional art.
We will offer this service on knives made previously but there must be
a fee attached due to having it photographed as well as setting up the
information. If you would like your older knife registered just contact
us via email with the subject line saying "registration certificate".
What do knifemakers do when they are off the clock?

Due to life in general and my hands especially as mentioned down below on this page there will be some more new changes. Office hours will be monday through friday at noon of each week that I am here. If I am in the shop just leave a message on the phone and I will get back with you. Ya'll just have to be patient with me.
The
Uncle Al group will be hosting a knife show in Texarkana in
the first of September of 2007. We are working on the details of it
now.
This
is a change for my shows sales. For several years now at the three
shows that I set up at not including my show, I do not sell to dealers
until two hours after the show opens [no direct dealer sales in my
show]. I let the folks coming in the door have first chance. Beginning
this year, Door sales first hour, and one hour after the public is let
in I will accept call in buys on my cell phone. One hour after that
then the dealers can purchase. I always have the pictures posted on
what I carry to the show so you can pick what you want if it is still
on the table. You can email me or call for more information on the
knife if desired and I can give you the cell number at that time. . Just call me or email me if you are interested and I
will give you my cell phone number. Remember call in purchases
begin one hour after the public is let in the door, I will not answer
till that hour is up, then just have at it folks. This way for some
reason you cannot be at the show you can still purchase the one you
really wanted. Providing it is still on the table of course.
I
am in the process of trying to start up a small knife production
company. This line of knives will be in a limited amount of no more than 100 each month that will be for sale, world wide. I
am having them done in Brazil where I can trust how they are made. The
first one out will me a hunter or personal knife if you prefer. It will
be one I know will work for hunting, backpacking or general carry. The
blades for these are forged, yes, forged, from 52100 steel and oil
quenched. Brazilian walnut handles. The first run of 50 pieces will be
a prototype bunch. I am already in the process of tweaking
the pattern a bit. The prices on these are priced well. I will sell
most of these myself from my web site. I go to Brazil in March 2006 to
work on a few more details. While there I will take the tactial
prototype. This is a tactial bowie knife version that I know you
will all like. I cannot give details of the patterns until they hit the
market then I can give details of the what fors and whys. This
model will be from 1070 steel, again only a limited amount each month
will be available. I am not trying to compete against the larger
companies but I am trying to fill a nice little pocket in between
customs and normal production. These knives will actually be made in
the "benchmade" process. In other words a small group of people that
gets in there and hand makes these to my specs. They work on it and
pass it down the bench to the next person.
Changes
beginning for the year 2006. I will have to make a bit fewer knives total
each year. For several years now I have been having problems with my
shoulders and hands. By doctors orders I did not work from October
until the end of December 2005 to try and let the joints rest up a bit while
putting me on all kinds of pain and joint stuff. What it boils down to
is that I developed inflamation in all my finger joints, elbows and sholders
from too much hammering and grinding without rest over the years. So,
beginning 2006 I will make a few less knives. I will not be in the
shop on the weekends except for very rare occasions. I can still work
for years to come I just have to pace it better and stay on the meds.
All this also means is that there will be a slight increase in cost and
I will keep it as low increase as I can. I am doing well with it but
wanted to let yall know the reason there are not quite as many produced
as there was each year. As my old dad used to say, "You can't keep a
squirrel on the ground".
There
was a computer crash and that has affected my client list. I am trying
to get it all recovered and will probally send out letters to double
check what I have written down. If you do not recieve a letter by the
end of january email me what your order was, when given etc and I will
check it with what I have on paper. When the program crashed it jumbled
all of the addresses and info up with others on the list.
There has been a lot
of times collectors and sportsmen have asked me where can I get a good
quality oil for my knives. I now have Ballistol you can purchase from
me. This is way the best oil I have found to care and protect your
pieces. Just email me for a can. I have both large and small containers.
On the Shows I will be attending button I will start putting pictures of the knives I will be bringing to the particular show under the button. That way that gives you an ideal of what I will be taking before you get there. Not all pieces will have time to be photographed but I will post up what I can of what I am carrying. Once back from the show I will leave the pictures up till I start putting pieces together for the next show.
Each year I will be offering a total of 12 knives or less marked with the NLT [National Living Treasure] stamp. These will be one of a kind presentation grade or investment class knives. All of this series of knives will go into the coffee table book when it is finished.
I will be attempting to make one knife a month and put it on this site for sale. The knives will vary from simple to presentation grade and investment class.
